Fun facts:

• Polar bears are great swimmers.
We can swim up to 40 miles across open sea without resting. We use our front legs as our “engines,” with our back legs just taking it easy behind us. Everything from our partially webbed toes to our nostrils that shut to seal out water make us awesome at aquatics.

While we’re swimming, we can leap up to eight feet out of the water to surprise our prey!

Our fur may look white or yellow, but it’s actually clear! And it’s hollow. Most of the sunlight passes through it and is absorbed by our black skin – yes, black! This helps keep us toasty warm.

• It stays dark and gets incredibly cold for a few months a year where we live. When it gets extremely cold or stormy, we dig temporary dens in snow banks. It’s our version of a snug home!
