Here's Looking at You, Kid!
Wild Animals

Name:

Type of animal:

BUSTER

BLACK-HEADED CAIQUES PARROT

(pronounced ki-ee-kes)

Black-headed Caiques Parrot
Homeland:
South America, north of the Amazon, and parts of Venezuela, Ecuador, and Peru

Eats: Fruits, nuts, seeds, buds, nectar, and other vegetarian cuisine (I really don’t eat buttons, despite what I said on the video. But yours sure do look tasty!)

Fun facts:

• Because of our energetic, social, playful personalities, we caiques are known as “the clowns of the parrot world.”
Oh, we’re also quite intelligent. (I look it, don’t I? Very curious, too…So ARE those buttons edible?)

• We parrots have two claws facing forward and two facing backward. It may look odd, but it sure helps us when it comes to hanging onto and climbing up branches. (This feature is known as being “zygodactyl.” It’s a great “Z” word to know for a Scrabble game when you’re older!)

• What do cockatiels, parakeets, macaws, budgies, lovebirds, conures, and cockatoos have in common? They’re all parrots!
