WESTERN LOWLAND GORILLA

Western Lowland Gorilla
Homeland: Rainforests in central Africa

Eats:
As you know from the video, we gorillas are vegetarians. (“Herbivorous” is the more accurate word for what gorillas are, actually,) We eat a variety of fruits, leaves, stems, and roots. As you saw, I personally like to gnaw on sticks!

Fun Facts:

• Despite our great size (up to 600 pounds!), gorillas are generally peaceful and gentle -- just like my Uncle Bob.

• What makes a gorilla like a bird? Gorillas sleep in nests in trees! We usually sleep in a different tree every night. (A young gorilla like me will sleep in nests with his mother until he's about 3 years old.!)

• We gorillas rarely drink water. We get most of our moisture from our diet, and from dew on leaves. When we do drink water, we have a very nifty way of doing it: We soak the back of our hands in water and suck it from our fur!
