COTSWOLD SHEEP

Cotswold SheepFun Facts:

• We Cotswold sheep are one of the oldest breeds of sheep in the world! The conquering Romans introduced us to England more than 2,000 years ago. In my opinion, we’re some of the best sheep around. We are hardy, gentle, and have lustrous fleece other sheep can only dream about!

Speaking of wool, have you ever wondered why wool sweaters and mittens shrink terribly when washed in water, but why sheep don’t shrink when we get wet? (Or at least why our wool doesn’t shrink down to an embarrassingly tiny outfit in the rain?) It’s because living wool fibers don’t interlock, which is a big part of what causes shrinkage. Good thing, because I think I see a rain cloud coming!

• My friend Charles said on the video that I’m not black, but I really am. OK, I look brown (or rust-colored as he said) but I’m really black. At least that’s what people call me: I’m officially a black Cotswold sheep. So you can’t blame me for going around singing “Baa-Baa Black Sheep” all time. It’s like that song was written just for yours truly!
